Halloween 2013

This year is a wet Halloween. It's been cold and it warmed up for the evening, but the rain came down. We had to trick or treat in the rain. I hoped the kids would say skip it, but I knew that was just about as likely as pigs flying. It is always pitched black in the neighborhood but there were plenty of kids. The bottoms of the kids costumes were soaked by the time we decided to head back home.

Big M sat outside our door with the bowl of candy in his lap. He stayed really still and then scared the kids that came. It was later at night so the little kids were done making their rounds, so it was high-schoolers that were the victim. It was hilarious!

School Halloween Craziness

Our school's Halloween party is always a hit with the kids. How can it not be? Kids in costumes running around, dancing, chasing each other. Good luck looking for your own kids when it's time to go though.

The kids especially love the 5th graders haunted house.

Pumpkin pickin

A couple of weeks ago we somehow managed to find a free time to go to pick up pumpkins. Football practice must have been cancelled.

Not everyone was happy though. The reason why we went, the haunted hayride, was apparently not running on that day. So we made a second trip one evening to enjoy a pitch black, very cold and drizzly haunted hayride.

Halloween 2011

This year, Big M is a SWAT officer, K is Jessie, J is Cleopatra, Little M is Superman and Daddy is a grumpy old man. We only had trouble getting J's costume because she had one criteria that had to be met - the costume cannot be scratchy. We tried many many costumes before we landed on Cleopatra.

This year, Daddy stayed home with Little M. Little M goes to bed at 6 so we decided he should stay home and hand out candy instead.

This is Daddy fetching Superman from the neighbor's yard. The neighbor had balloons and that was just too much for the little superhero to resist.

This is our neighbor identical twins. They are not quite 3 years old and both K & J have fallen in love with them and vice versa.

I know it's way past Halloween but I haven't posted anything about it yet. :( And seeing as blogging is the only way I'm going to remember this many many years from now, it's better late than never. My mommy group had a Halloween bash for the kids, and it was on the day that all the other kids were in school so Little M was the only who made it. He was superman. We bought this costume 3 weeks ago. This was the only time we bought the costumes way in advance. In the past years, we've always shopped the weekend before Halloween. And as it turned out, this was not such a good idea. Little M had a growth spurt. The sleeves and legs were a good 2 inches too short and kept rolling up.

Buddy Bear was a guest at our house this weekend. He spends the weekend with those that are currently the Kindergarten's Star Student of the Week. Big M showed him the Halloween decoration in our front yard on the way to church this morning.

Then as soon as it got dark, we went trick or treating! We left a full bowl of candy in our front yard. We had to fill it up 3x.

When Snow White and Tinker Bell, and the little Monkey got tired we went back home. Big M and Daddy went to a few more houses.

Little Monkey was very good until he became very very tired.

This is a first time Daddy and I dressed up for the Halloween. We all definitely enjoyed ourselves! I looked a little scary though. Instead of buying white make-up, Daddy picked up a make-up base for me. It was waxy and my hair kept sticking to it. But I made do. The girls loved my red lips.

The girls' school held it's Halloween party earlier this week. It was perfect for the young ones. They played games to win candies. They loved showing off their costumes!

face painting

I saw a face painting kit at the craft store while buying Halloween crafts, so I tried my hand at it. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at it. Fortunately, I'm good enough to amuse my 3 year olds...not so much my 5 year old, though. I wasn't able to paint what he wanted me to do.

believe it or not, the black bug is supposed to be a spider. But it looks more like a tick.

my best work yet - a Lego logo. This boy is a Lego freak! By the way, I hear some people have already received their Lego holiday catalogs.  Shhh. Don't tell him because we don't have one.

Halloween preparations

A few weeks ago, I put whatever Halloween decorations we have up. None of our neighbors have any decorations, but I thought maybe it was just too early. One day, when the kids were outside playing with the neighborhood kids, I asked the woman across from us what Halloween was like here in the past years. She said it was not a big thing because most of the people in our development are Asian. She even recommended that we  go to a local church if we wanted to trick or treat. We were disappointed a little bit so I started researching where we could take the kids.

Several days later, I decided to ask another neighbor who has been in the neighborhood for more than 10 years. Alas, she said Halloween is a big thing with so many kids around. She said very few decorate their houses, but there are definitely tons of trick or treaters. Hooray! Great news! With so many kids who play outside daily, it's definitely going to be fun.

Daddy and I decided that we should join in too this year. The kids are definitely excited about it.

NC Zoo videos

10/31/09

Here are videos from the zoo (the pictures are posted here). How did these kids get so big so fast? Curious George is slightly over 3 1/2 ft tall, wearing size 11.5 shoe and 6-7 yr old clothes. His sisters are about 3 ft tall, wearing size 9.5 shoes (Thing 2's feet are ever so slightly bigger) and 4T clothes.

Thing 2 is wearing pink, Thing 1 is in white.



Here are the kids loving the colorful poisonous frogs. Notice Curious George holding the Zoo map. He planned our route the entire time based on which animals he wanted to see. We didn't see the entire Zoo since it is too big.



You can see in Thing 1's face how tired she is and hungry. Curious George's excitement is still going strong here. He loves animals! He has told us many times that he wants to be a Zoologist and Entomologist...among many other things of course.



On the move again, following Curious George. They were all hesitant to walk on the floor vents.

NC Zoo (10/31/09)

With Trick or Treating out of the way a few days prior, we were able to enjoy the Zoo on Halloween. The forecast was rain starting midday, but it actually started in the morning. But we went ahead with the plan to go to NC Zoo. Good thing, too. There was barely anyone around!

Thing 1 guzzling water. This was about 2pm. The girls were tired but were absolute troopers. She's wearing a necklace she won by tossing bean bags through a small hole (a fund raising for the Bats part of the Zoo).
